Hyrule Christmas Party

The assignment was "Santa". I have always been a fan of the Zelda Games series and I decided to do an illustration based on the main characters from the games. The idea is that Link and Ganondorf both showed up to the christmas party dressed as santa. I thought it would be a fun idea. I admit that it would probably be more interesting to those that actually know who these people are. But, I think it's fun either way. I'm still going to refine quite a bit, but you get the basic idea. And, i'm sure, after the in-class critique some things will probably change. Please comment!

Jeff Ward Portrait.

After the critique I completely scrapped the background and put in a "studio" environment. It's still unfinished but you can see the basic layout for the background. I'm still going to put some elements in. The newest version is on top. This is the version that I will print. Comments welcome.

Jeff Ward Portrait ( In Progress 60% Done )

The assignment was to do a portrait of one of the Art Faculty members. Our class drew names out of a hat and I drew Jeff Ward who is a fine artist who currently works drawing storyboards (if i'm not mistaken). Given that he is a "non-traditional" faculty member, he doesn't have an office on campus. So I wasn't able to get ahold of him to actually take a photo for reference. So I happened upon an image of him on the internet with a stylish beard and hair and decided to use that as reference. I just threw the frame on there as a texture for fun. Please comment!

Personalized American Gothic Copy

I decided to choose the 1930 Grant Wood painting, "American Gothic," for my painting to copy for our class assigment. But, I didn't want to just paint it exactly the same.

Revised Vampire Apple

Based on the in-class critique I took down the contrast in the eyes and bumped the contrast around the mouth area. I fixed some of the monotonous strokes in the hair and softened a few edges in the face. I tried putting some canvas texture in the background as well. Comments encouraged.

Vampire Apple

The concept for this design was originally a vampire sucking the life out of an apple. This was the 2nd digital illustration assignment also based on the apple concept. It still needs some work.
