Ben the Great

It's my brother-in-law Ben's birthday today and I did a small illustration for his birthday card last night. I used reference of an "ugly sweater contest" that he won. It could have used another couple hours work but, that's OK. Comments welcome.

Flower Comission

I recently received a commission to paint a daisy and a hibiscus flower together. It was somewhat of a challenge to put together reference but, luckily my wife is studying horticulture and was able to point me in the right direction. There is a poem that goes along with this piece. It's a personal poem so if you don't know the people involved it might not mean anything. But it's a touching piece none-the-less:

A Hibiscus suddenly bloomed
Right up the street….
Right here in Arkansas!

I walked on over to have a look,
just to take a peek…..
(I’m really not a ‘flower person’)
But Oh!  What I found!
Just three doors down!

An exotic, tropical rose!
The bloom was a beauty,
All could see that,
But as I got closer…
This flower was so much more!

Solid, strong, bright, happy,
resilient and calm.
Sharing its perfume
with the daisy down the road.

Sunday Sketch

There's a really cute little girl that we see running around every so often on Sundays and I thought I'd do a little illustration of her. It started out as a little sketch and I thought I'd finish it out. I don't know that it's a very accurate likeness but I think it's fun nonetheless. It's a little different from what I usually paint but I'm trying new things. Comments welcome!

The Hunter Revised

I have added a little more to the scene and played around with some effects. I think it's a fun piece overall. I would like to play around with it some more but for the most part it's done.

The Conjurer Revised

I believe that this piece is about finished! For those of you who remember the previous version, this one is pretty similar. But, I have refined and touched up the line quality, colors and added more foliage. I feel alot better about it now. I am going to use this as one of my pieces for my BFA submission portfolio. Comments always welcome.

The Panda Concerto

This was something I did just for fun today. Originally I was going to include a squirrel somewhere but after several attempts I decided that Mr. Panda didn't want to share any of the glory and wanted to play all by himself. I might still pick at it a little but for the most part it's done. Comments please!

Children's Book Teaser

I've been debating as to whether or not I want to post the images from the current children's book i'm working on until it's finished. I just like to let the few people that follow my blog know what i'm up to. So, here is the first spread for the book "Special Days". I am still going to fix a few things but they are minor. Comments always welcome!

PORTRAIT PRICES

I have received quite a few requests for prices on family or individual portraits. I am hesitant to set a definite price because I am negotiable. But here are some prices that will give those interested an idea of how much it will cost to get a portrait done. My prices are based off of the following: Size, and number of people. I charge a base fee for the size and then I charge $20 for every person beyond one.

Here are the base prices for a few standard frame sizes:

11x14 ($200)
16x20 ($220)
18x24 ($240)
24x30 ($260)
24x36 ($280)
(Prices for sizes beyond 24x36 will vary. Contact me for more details)

As I mentioned, the above listed prices are the "base prices" for the project if there were only one person in the painting. For every person beyond one it's $20 per person. For example for a painting size 18x24 here would be the prices for 1-4 people:

1 Person $240
2 People $260
3 People $280
4 People $300
...ETC...

Please contact me if you have any questions regarding pricing.

The Hunter

I am currently working on a children's book (this image has nothing to do with the children's book). So until I am done with that I cannot post any of the spreads. Every so often I'll take breaks from the book to try new brushes, or new techniques that I see other artists use. This is a combination of a few new brushes and a technique using screen layers for ambient and direct lighting. I don't think i've got it down yet but it's starting to have a fun feel. I am also pushing myself to allow things to fade out and other things to become more prominent. Anyway, comments always welcome.
